The pony bug bites!

my side kick zeusI have never before been involved with ponies. They were another farmyard animal, seen from a distance doing very little but shorten the grass in the fields they lived in. That was until my daughter took up riding lessons. It's true I'd got the run down of the antics my wife got up to when she was a youngster and riding regularly but that was in the past, that didn't involve me. But this, this was different, Lauren was keen as mustard and eager to improve and she had adopted that inherent behaviour all kids nowadays appear to have, that of no fear.
So attending the weekly lessons I find myself ambling around the stable yard, while waiting for her to mount her next victim, talking, no doubt absolute drivel to these beasts as if I were some derranged and secret 'horse whisperer'. The fact that the horses respond with nods, whinnes, snorts and on one occasion a nip to the arm when I turned my back only encouraged my ramblings further.
I spend more time looking at boots, riding breaches, whips, hats and associated paraphanalia than my daughter when visiting the local stockist, which inevitably means we come away with something more than intended.
And it seems that I am also encouraging and taking the family to lots of local events...and enjoying it immensley. My side kick, Zeus, a German Shepherd is subjected to stopping during our walks whenever we come across a pony on route....I'm sure he thinks I'm going to trade him in.
Bitten by the bug? But they haven't got me in the saddle yet...
