The Dream to ride

hardy soulsLike a lot of youngsters I love ponies and horses and would nag my Mum and Dad with how much I would love to ride. My Mum used to ride when she was younger and I know she would love to do it again, (one down, one to go).
Riding was a dream come true for me when we arrived at a riding school and I got my first lesson. Once a week, every week, rain or shine we went back and I chose a pony for my next lesson and every week I learnt a bit more. My instructor was called Jill and she was great. I got to ride and know different ponies, from the slow to the boisterous, elegant to plain old crabby and naughty, but each one was clever enough to know what was wanted of it.

Her name is Blossom - after the time of year she was born we think. Blossom was beautiful. Strong but kind, helpful but forward, comfortable and responsive. And scary. She had a mind, she had a will and we'd spend time getting to know each other well. I carried on with my lessons and brought the skills home to practice with Blossom. The thrill, excitement and touch of fear on every ride is exhilerating. The reward and companionship I am building with my pony is great.

It is very hard work to. I always wanted to help at the stables but was to young. Now I get not only to ride but to feed, clean the stable, clean the yard, clean the field (pooh picking), clean the water trough, clean the tack and groom my pony - it don't half eat into my play time after school and at weekends.
And my biggest reward with Blossom so far was entering our first ever show together and winning a rosette for clear round jumping.
My dream will continue...lets hear of yours...
